Married At First Sight star says he's 'let people down' in 'heartbreaking' split
Married At First Sight UK star Matt Jameson has opened up on his "heartbreaking" split from Daniel McKee and how he felt added pressure coping with heartache after meeting his ex-boyfriend on E4's reality show.
Matt and Daniel became the show's first-ever gay couple in 2021 and enjoyed a two-year romance before splitting in December last year. In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Matt explained how they both "felt a massive responsibility" to their fans when they issued their split statement.
He shared: "We fell in love, we had a great relationship, I don't want to take that away. I had an incredible experience being on the show, and me and Dan enjoyed that journey together.

"It is a shame that things didn't work out for the long term, but that pressure and feeling like you're letting the community and the fans and everybody that supports you down. And that's why it was so difficult to put that [break-up] announcement out back in December last year.

"I was upset anyway because I was heartbroken. I was in love with Dan and I'll be honest with you, I didn't want us to separate but circumstances were that that needed to happen, so having that added pressure was quite intense, and even more so upsetting. It's like any relationship that breaks down and any relationship where you fall out or you separate, you have that hurt because either one of you doesn't want to or it’s a difficult time anyway."
Matt explains it was hard coping with a split in the public eye (@matt_d_jameson/Instagram)Matt continued: "Knowing that's in the public eye and everybody's gonna have an opinion, it was an added pressure because we were a little bit like the ‘golden gay couple’ for a time. Everybody was rooting for us, everybody was saying how great we were together.
Matt revealed he still receives messages from fans about his relationship with Dan when he posts about watching the current Married At First Sight series.
"People are still messaging and saying, ‘It's such a shame you and Dan didn’t stay together. We thought you were going to go the distance,'" he added.
"And to be fair I did as well, and I put my heart and soul into the process and into the relationship so for that to break down was really heartbreaking for me, and it's taken me a long time to move forward and get over it. I've never experienced a breakup being in the public eye does add so much pressure and even more sadness, I think because you feel like you've had a responsibility to to be this great couple together which we were for a good time. But then for it to break down and have to communicate out to all the fans was really really hard."
