Ex Miss World contestant, 26, dies following cancer battle as family shares heartbreaking tribute

Former Miss World contestant Sherika de Armas has died aged 26 following a two-year cancer battle.

Local media reported she died on October 13. The star's family and friends paid tribute to her following her death. Her brother Mayk De Armas took to social media to share a beautiful video of the former queen skating and said: "No more pain, bon voyage. I’ll love you forever."

Current Miss Uruguay Carla Romero also paid tribute to Sherika. She said: "Too evolved for this world. One of the most beautiful women I have ever met in my life.” Sherika was diagnosed with uterine cancer two years ago and went through many treatments to stop it from spreading.

"I will always remember you, not only for all the support you gave me and for how much you wanted to see me grow, but for your love, your joy, the friends we shared and who remain with me today," Miss Uruguay 2021 winner Lola de los Santos wrote.

One heartbroken fan took to her page and wrote: "I'm devastated, I can't believe she is gone shey. QPD. I didn't know you but I followed you and you seemed to me an amazing simple mine. Very sincere, human, and you could see a lot of passion for what you did. You left us way too soon . The best for the family."

Sherika became Miss Uruguay in 2015 and represented the country at Miss World during the same year. Unfortunately, she didn't make the top 30 but was one of only six 18-year-olds to take part in the competition.

Along with modelling, Sherika was heavily involved with volunteer work as she volunteered with institutions like the Pérez Scremini Foundation that work towards curing childhood cancer. She also opened a beauty studio, put effort into her social media and built a large following.

Sherika previously opened up about her beauty pageant and said she "always wanted to be a model" and said her work was a "dream come true."
