Travis Kelce has revealed how he used to watch LeBron James during his high school days after the NBA legend requested to be on his podcast, and insisted he believes an invite has been sent to the Los Angeles Lakers star.

Kelce has been making headlines in recent weeks amid rumours he has been dating Taylor Swift. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has yet to publicly confirm or deny the rumours, but has dropped hints either on social media or on his podcast.

The Chiefs tight end co-hosts the ‘New Heights’ podcast alongside his brother Jason Kelce, a centre for the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL. It was in the latest episode of the popular podcast that the duo got onto the subject of James.

It was on October 4 that James posted a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, about the Kelce brothers’ podcast. The Los Angeles Lakers star expressed his desire to appear as a guest on the podcast, and express his admiration for the show.

James wrote: “Crazy I can’t get an invite to join y'all fantastic show! Is it because you guys are truly the Kings of [North East] Ohio and I claim to be? Be honest! Seriously you guys are AWESOME!!”

Both of the Kelce brothers are Ohio natives, same as James, despite all three currently playing away from the state. It was on the latest episode of the podcast released on Wednesday that Travis and Jason began reacting to the tweet from James.

Travis said: “That was pretty wild, I wasn’t expecting him to be listening in to this show.” Before he later added: “There’s no way that we haven’t sent LeBron James the invite.”

Jason was also expressing his excitement at the prospect of having James appear on the podcast, not just as an NBA legend, but also as a fellow Ohio native.

“Listen LeBron, you’re welcome whenever you wanna come on, brother,” Jason said. He added: “Grew up watching you play, and we have watched your career as Cleveland and North East Ohio guys all the way from St. Vincent-St. Mary [High School] until now.

“I think it’s safe to say that it would be an honour to talk to you.”

Travis then said: “Please, we will make it happen.” The Chiefs tight end went on to tell a story of how he watched James play basketball during his high school days in Ohio, and how he was left in awe of what he witnessed.

“I went to watch a game down in Cleveland State when I was in seventh grade to go and watch LeBron James go and play high school basketball,” said Travis. “He was selling out arenas all over North East Ohio and selling so many tickets that they had to take it to a college arena.

“I was out of my seat and like a little kid getting excited about what the new wave of the NBA was going to look like. And sure enough, he didn’t disappoint, he just kept rising and rising and it’s been cool to follow him.”

Travis added: “LeBron, you already know what it is. We have got to finish the debate of whether or not NBA players can play in the NFL.”
