Meghan Markle was praised after sharing an intimate moment with a French competitor at the Invictus Games.

The 42-year-old attended the annual event in Dusseldorf, Germany, last month, alongside her husband Prince Harry, who was the co-founder of the Invictus Games. He first launched the Invictus Games in 2014, and military veterans who have been wounded during service compete against other countries in the empowering event.

During last month’s Invictus Games, Meghan dutifully met competitors from around the world, and spoke personally to many of them behind-the-scenes. In one touching photo, the Duchess of Sussex was seen holding hands with a French female competitor as she spoke to her. The picture was taken by photographer Misan Harriman, who is a close friend of Meghan and Harry, and captioned the post: “A lovely moment from this year's Invictus Games.”

The woman reposted the snap on Instagram, under the handle @mac6xz, and praised Meghan for her “empathy and respect”. She wrote: “The Duchess of Sussex and…yep, that’s me. How did I end up in this situation?! Here comes the story… By some sheer luck and thanks to JC who spotted her, I found myself on her path.”

“And the thing is…she stopped and took some time to speak with me. What you see here, what @misanharriman perfectly captured, is the embodiment of mutual gratitude, empathy and respect. 'Merci', that’s what she said to me when she knew we were French. 'Merci à vous' is what I replied,” she continued.

Her followers were blown away by the touching photo, and congratulated her for meeting the Duchess. “'Mutual gratitude, empathy and respect' exactly the words I got first time I saw this picture. So glad you enjoyed Invictus,” one wrote. “Such a beautiful picture. You can feel the emotions coming through it,” another added. “Very beautiful warm deep picture. Welldone to all of you. Fantastic organisation. You are all awesome. Amd thank you for supporting Harry and Meghan not buying the hate against them. Thank u for your service,” one follower commented.

In other pictures shared by photographer Misan on Instagram, Meghan can be seen touching her husband’s back as he chatted with competitors, while another showed her looking on proudly as Harry practised his emotional closing speech. After attending the Invictus Games in Germany, the couple flew back to their home in California, and prepared for their next event in New York.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be in the Big Apple for their inaugural Archewell Foundation's Parents' Summit, which will focus on helping families navigate children’s mental health and wellness. “Together, they are united in their mission to share personal experiences, data, and research to ensure the same does not happen to other families,” they said in a statement.
