Madonna's 'painful' appearance 'exaggerated' after terrifying medical scare
Madonna sparked concern from fans as she was pictured with a "painful" looking face and one expert believes her appearance could be related to her recent hospitalisation.
The 65-year-old was rushed to hospital back in June with a serious bacterial infection and spent several days in ICU. During the scary ordeal, Madonna was intubated for at least one night.
She now looks completely different to the usual stunning selfies she shares on Instagram. In videos posted online, the Queen of Pop was seen with a much fuller face and had decided not to wear any makeup. She had also bleached her eyebrows. Fans shared their worries, with one person writing: "Jesus what happened to her." Another said: "Her lips look painful."

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, he said: "There seems to be some swelling of the face and lips. She was seen earlier in the year with significant changes to the facial appearance. She was recently admitted to ICU and sometimes patients may develop swelling or oedema for many different reasons. Her present appearance may be exaggerated following her recent hospital admission."

He suggested that Madonna may have had a facelift procedure. Reza warned: "Anyone considering cosmetic surgery should be fully aware that there are always potential risks or complications. Patients will have a pre operative assessment to identify potential risks of issues that may arise postop."

He added: "If an individual undergoes skin resurfacing or a harsh chemical face peel, this can result in some residual post-treatment swelling during the healing process."
Amish said it's unlikely that Madonna's change in appearance will be down to fillers. He told us: "In an overfilled face, otherwise known as 'pillow face', (a term coined from the influx of Hollywood celebrities who trended with overfilling a few years ago), we would typically see some contouring in the cheeks, but in this particular photo, we don't."
He added: "The difference between this image and others could be as simple as the lighting/angle. Looking through her Instagram content, she obviously pays attention to her beauty lighting, so perhaps in the snapshot in question, there wasn't a similar set up. The lack of make-up in this photo could also be why she looks so different, with barely there eyebrows and no cheek or lip make-up of note."
