Man Utd stars have 'lost trust' in Onana as Schmeichel gives damning verdict
Peter Schmeichel believes Andre Onana 's teammates are beginning to lose trust in him after the Manchester United goalkeeper made another error against Brentford.
Onana has endured a nightmare start to his United career since joining the Red Devils in a £47.2million deal from Inter Milan in the summer. The Cameroon international has made a string of high-profile mistakes and was once again at fault for Brentford's opening goal in Saturday's dramatic 2-1 win at Old Trafford.
A late Scott McTominay double salvaged a result for United, but the Scotman's remarkable contribution has not prevented Onana from further scrutiny. And Schmeichel, a club legend, revealed after the match that he had reached out to the 27-year-old in the wake of his poor form.
After admitting Onana had "not covered himself in glory" with Brentford's strike, Schmeichel told Premier League Productions: “I think a lot of that [Onana's mistakes] is pressure. I spoke to him after Bayern. I spoke to him after Galatasaray as well and he was very down on the mistakes he made.
“I’m trying to speak to him about what it’s like being at Manchester United and why whatever [mistakes] you’ve made, you have to put it in a box and put it to the side. If you make a mistake in the game, it might be a mistake we can see, it might be a mistake that we don’t see.

“But you wait to think about it and analyse it after the game or at night or whatever. You have to be there for the next moment. If you’re not, you’ll make the next mistake. And now he’s upset the whole team. They will now not trust him even more, and my god, it’s not good.”

He was brought in to replace long-term No.1 David de Gea, who also made a number of costly errors last season.
Erik ten Hag spoke out in defence of Onana following Tuesday night's 3-2 defeat against Galatasaray in the Champions League and made it clear that he would be keeping faith with his new No.1.
The Dutchman said: "We are happy with our goalkeeping group, definitely with Andre, and Andre was in one semi-finals of the Champions League, last season he was in a final of the Champions League, he has the capabilities to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
"He showed that and he will do. We have already seen in games his great capabilities, also his personality after he made a mistake. He will bounce back and I'm sure he will do in the coming games as well."
