The family of a baby who suddenly died at eight weeks old when she went to sleep and never woke up again have spoken of their heartbreak.

Little Lucy Louise had been fed at around 3am before going back to sleep, but later the same morning was found "blue" and unresponsive by her mum Alisha Batty in their Wolverhampton home. Her partner, Adam Dutton, 21, carried out CPR until paramedics arrived but she was pronounced dead at around 9am on Sunday, September 17. The family are still clueless as to what caused the baby’s tragic death and are waiting for the results of a post-mortem.

Alisha, 21, told BirminghamLive of the tragedy: “I gave Lucy her last bottle at 3.30am in the morning and everything was fine, I changed her nappy and put her back into bed. I woke up at 8am; that is the usual time she gets up for a feed, 7.30am or 8am, and I ducked my head into her cot and she was blue and not breathing. My partner had to quickly do CPR while I was on the phone to the ambulance. They came, the police and everything came, obviously being a baby.

“We still don't know her cause of death, it's nearly been three weeks and the coroner still hasn't taken her. We are just sort of in this loop."

Lucy had recently been on a family holiday to Rhyl, in Wales, where she enjoyed splashing in the pool, said Alisha. The mum added: “Everything was fine, she was very happy, she went on holiday. There was never any concern about the way she was. We went to Rhyl for two weeks. Her favourite thing was swimming, she used to love going swimming and she would smile her head off constantly."

Lucy’s grandmother, Bev Batty, 53, has started a GoFundMe page to pay for the tiny tot’s funeral as well as a "keepsake bear" for her two-year-old brother, Oliver. She wrote: “My eight-week-old granddaughter Lucy Louise went to sleep and didn’t wake up.

"Our precious baby girl has been taken from us. And as a family, we are struggling with why this has happened. Her mummy and daddy, and big brother Ollie, are devastated. They are a low-income family and - while we will do our utmost best to give Lucie the best celebration of life that we possibly can, and a keepsake bear for Ollie. I am asking family and friends near and far if at all possible to donate as much, or as little, as possible to help this happen. Our lives will never be the same without our princess, our hearts are shattered."
