MAFS' Shona breaks silence on controlling Brad after experts forced to intervene
Married At First Sight star Shona Manderson has broken her silence after her husband Brad Skelly was accused of 'controlling' and 'manipulative' behaviour towards her throughout the first couple of episodes in the brand-new series.
Brad, 27, who works as a model, was paired up with performing arts teacher Shona, 31, as the experts felt their connection would be electric and special. However, on Wednesday's instalment of the E4 show, experts Paul, Mel, and Charlene, warned Brad that his behavior towards Shona could be deemed as 'dangerous' as they were forced to step in on the new relationship.
The experts interviewed after uncomfortable scenes saw Brad tell his new wife Shona to 'shut up' before he claimed that he 'allowed' Shona to feel all the emotions she wanted to express as their relationship hit a few bumps in recent episodes.
Following the scenes at the commitment ceremony, MAFS UK fans took to Twitter (X) to slam 'entitled' Brad's controlling behaviour as they insisted that Shona was too head over heels to see the red flags in her relationship.

However, when the reality star watched back the scenes last night, she felt 'uncomfortable' reliving the situation and seeing herself so vulnerable.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, Shona explained: "In this moment I’m trying to be so positive and give it all I’ve got because I’m really trying to believe in us and what I was feeling was so intense and heightened. The last two nights have been hard to watch and I know tonight will be even trickier. I’m aware of the insecurities I have, this experiment really bought them to the surface.
"Firstly I didn’t like the feeling that the group were talking about us in a negative way, I admit I want to be liked but I needed validation as deep down in my gut I knew there was truth in what people were saying and I was almost trying to convince myself.
"I was completely infatuated in that relationship, I got lost and in trying to defend us as a couple I was silenced. I don’t even remember that happening. It’s difficult to see what everyone else could see and what you are watching play out now. It’s uncomfortable to see this from the outside perspective and feeling what arises up for me in witnessing what everyone else could see and now you’re watching it play out just as we watch it for the first time.
"I could honestly write so much as there are so many factors involved with what goes down within our pairing, a lot of things which happen off camera and things that aren’t aired.. the good and the ugly. Most importantly I need to remember how far I’ve come since then. I’ve truly learnt so much on this journey, it’s been a huge lesson for me and it actually has been a very, very happy ending."
Cracks have started to show in Shona and Brad's marriage (E4)Shona finished off her lengthy post by writing: "You grow through what you go through and never again will I put up with this behaviour. Finally, thank you for your support and kind words it means so, so much."
Her statement comes after Women's Aid praised the Married At First Sight experts for intervening and holding Brad accountable. In a statement, they said: "It is really important that the experts on the show called this out as controlling behaviour and challenged Brad's view that it was acceptable to say that he had the right to 'allow' Shona to be angry.
"TV programmes like these, which are based on the formation of relationships, need to be aware of the dynamics of controlling and coercive behaviour, and always send a clear message that it is wholly unacceptable."
After watching back Tuesday night's episode, where Brad told Shona to 'shut up', the model took to social media to slam the edit of the show as he said 'that was hard to watch'.
Married At First Sight UK continues tonight at 9PM on E4.
