Inside Prince William and Kate's secret date night visit to unusual venue

With a busy schedule of royal engagements along with three children to juggle, alone time is seemingly at a premium for the Prince and Princess of Wales.

However, it seems they managed to make time to have a night out just the two of them - but they opted for a very unusual venue. It is reported the couple paid a secret visit to the salerooms of auctioneers Dreweatts, which is close to their Windsor home. William and Kate upped sticks from Kensington Palace in London to move to Adelaide Cottage last year, with their home in close proximity to the Berkshire auction house.

According to the Daily Mail, the couple appeared "very, very interested" in some of the items they saw while at the salerooms. It is believed they were looking at the extraordinary collection amassed by decorator and antique dealer Robert Kime, who died in August.

Mr Kime decorated for King Charles in the past at Highgrove and Clarence House - and a three-day auction of his collection, which included carpets and vases worth up to £1.5million, started on Wednesday. A source told the publication: "Everyone was all of a twitter to see them. It was the beginning of the very big champagne reception that auctioneers always have before a serious date."

It's unknown if William and Kate made any bids for the lots that are set to go under the hammer, but it has been suggested that they could have been looking for gifts for the Princess of Wales's parents or siblings. Kate is known to have a passion for the arts with one royal expert claiming she makes trips out on her own to museums using a special trick to ensure she doesn’t get noticed. Royal author Tina Brown said that the princess heads out to museums and art galleries on her own away from the media glare by going early in the morning. She would set off to be there at around 8am, before members of the public arrive.

Writing in her book, The Palace Papers, Ms Brown stated that Kate's solo outings are done to "nourish her inner life" as well as allowing her to get out freely, doing some of the things she enjoys. Although the trick works in Kate's favour, she was once spotted out-and-about at a David Hockney exhibition at the Royal Academy by a surprised royal fan.

To mix in with her passion, Kate is also particularly fond of sketching and is credited as a talented artist. She put her artistic skills to good use for her sister Pippa's wedding in May 2017. The talented royal drew St Mark's Church, where the ceremony was held, on the front cover of the order of service.
