Man goes to extreme lengths to steal woman's plane seat and causes uproar
To pay extra and reserve a seat on a flight, or throw caution to the wind and hope you don't end up in the middle seat of your row: it's a dilemma that plagues a lot of people when booking their next holiday.
While the extra cost can be an unwelcome addition to the price of a trip away, being assured that you'll have your seat of choice during your journey is worth it for a lot of people, but it still might not be enough to stop someone who wasn't so organised from trying to grab the seat you've booked.
One woman found herself in the worst scenario after boarding a plane only to discover someone else was sat in her reserved seat. It was bad enough to go through the awkwardness of asking her fellow passenger to move, but she was nothing but surprised at the lengths her travel companion was willing to go to hold onto it: throwing a drink all over the prized seat in question.
A man, posting on Reddit, described the incident his wife had gone through during a flight the day before, where she encountered what he called "the final boss" of seat stealers.
His wife, he claimed, was "the last to board" her flight, and when she realised that her seat was occupied she politely informed the man sitting there that it was the one she had booked. The man then replied "Oh, I'm already all set up and comfortable here. Would you be okay taking the window seat?", which the man called a "standard play" of seat stealing.
'I don't want children staying up late at weekends - I really need adult time'
The woman refused the request for her fellow passenger to keep her seat, which caused him to begin "the standard fussy shuffle" while muttering that it would probably just be easier for her to take the window seat. She remained calm and wouldn't budge on her decision despite the bloke's strategic pauses and glares, letting him hold the whole plane up from departing.
"This is where it gets creative. After he clears all his stuff he ever so intentionally knocks his drink all over the seat and goes, 'Oh dang. It looks like the seat is all wet. No way you're going to want to sit there now. I'll go ahead and just sit in the wet seat.'"
One of the flight attendants then rushed to vacuum up the spilled liquid, while other passengers who witnessed the incident accused the drink-spiller of doing it "on purpose" along with "colourful commentary". Still not willing to give up his stolen seat, the man asked the woman again if she would prefer he remained in the now-damp seat, an offer she refused before he finally relinquished the aisle seat in question.
One commenter on the post called the man's behaviour "next level" on the anti-social scale and added that the woman "should've tossed the contents of a water bottle in the general direction of his crotchal region and tell the flight attendant that the passenger 'had an accident.'"
