Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff ensured everyone knew he has been listening to criticism of his performances, including that of former NFL star Ryan Fitzpatrick on "Thursday Night Football".

Goff helped the Lions claim a 34-20 win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North divisional matchup on Thursday. The Lions quarterback completed one touchdown pass for 210 yards with one interception at Lambeau Field.

The Lions moved to 3-1 for the season after the victory on the road in Green Bay. Goff has been a key figure on the Lions offense that has already claimed road victories in Green Bay and at Arrowhead Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs this season.

Prior to the game, former NFL quarterback Fitzpatrick - in his role as analyst for Prime Video - made some comments about Goff. The former QB, who played for a host of teams including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins, had referred to Goff as a “poor man’s Matt Ryan” before kick-off.

After the game, Goff joined Fitzpatrick and the presentation team, which included former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman. It was here that Goff took the opportunity to poke fun at Fitzpatrick for his earlier remarks.

"I thought I played better throughout the rest of the game," Goff said, as he joked with Fitzpatrick. "I hope it was up to your standards.

“I didn't know I was a poor man's anything. I heard about that.”

Goff’s remarks left the rest of the presenters laughing, while the Lions quarterback joined in with the humour by sharing a laugh. Fitzpatrick eventually responded by saying: “Matt Ryan’s a pretty good player, too.”

Goff responded by agreeing with Fitzpatrick’s comments about the former Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts quarterback. The Lions QB then said: “I’m giving you a hard time, I appreciate it, man”.

Ryan is far from the worst former quarterback to be compared to, with the 38-year-old winning the NFL MVP award in 2016. The four-time Pro Bowler is seventh on the list of all-time passing yards with 62,792 and ahead of other legends of the sport including Dan Marino, Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning, and John Elway.

The Lions lead the NFC North after the opening four games of the season. Next up for Goff and Co. is a home game at Ford Field against the Carolina Panthers on October 8 in Week 5.
