Ryder Cup TV coverage slammed by furious fans as major complaint emerges
Many viewers watching the Ryder Cup coverage in the United States have complained about the huge amount of adverts dominating the coverage.
The 2023 Ryder Cup is taking place at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club just outside Rome. Luke Donald is the captain of Team Europe, while Team USA are being lead by Zach Johnson in Italy.
Friday saw the first day of the tournament, with Donald and Johnson selecting their pairings for the morning foursomes at Marco Simone. The morning session saw a big lead emerge for Team Europe, after claiming a 4-0 win in the session.
Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton claimed a 4&3 win over Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns, while Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg defeated Brian Harman and Max Homa by the same scoreline. Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka beat Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa 2&1, while Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood won by the same score against Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.
The morning session left an uphill task for the US, but viewers across the Atlantic were left far from happy with the TV coverage of the tournament. In the States, NBC Sports has been broadcasting the Ryder Cup and viewers have been critical of the amount of commercials used during the coverage with their social media posts on X, formerly known as Twitter.

One fan wrote: “Biggest event in golf happens every two years and we are just bombarded with commercials. Gotta be a way to offer a commercial free version that shows every shot that people can pay for.”
Another fan in the US wrote:“This coverage is brutal. Ryder Cup only happens every two years and we have seen more commercials than golf shots.”
One final message from a US-based fan read: “The initial coverage of the RyderCup is awful by @NBCSports & @USANetwork. How do we not see every single shot with only 8 balls being played on the course?
“Between that and the incoherent scoring graphic in the corner. The biggest event in professional golf deserves better.”
Team USA are the current holders of the Ryder Cup, having won the tournament at Whistling Straits in 2021. Europe have not beaten the US since the last time the competition was held on home soil in 2018 in Paris.
History is on Europe’s side when it comes to their chances of winning this week. Team USA have not won the tournament in Europe since 1993 at the Belfry in England.
