Sergio Reguilon and Lisandro Martinez have both been sidelined, as Manchester United's injury crisis worsens.

United confirmed Martinez will be ruled out for an extended period on Friday afternoon, after the defender aggravated a foot injury. He suffered the problem in the defeat to Arsenal, before returning to play in the defeats to Brighton and Bayern Munich.

Lisandro Martinez will be out of action for an extended period due to an aggravation of the foot injury he suffered in April. The Argentinian defender experienced the setback in our Premier League game against Arsenal earlier this month," a club statement read.

"Martinez bravely continued playing for the following two games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Bayern Munich. But it has now been determined that he needs a period on the sidelines for recovery and rehabilitation.

"Assessment is ongoing to decide next steps. Everyone at Manchester United sends Lisandro our best wishes and looks forward to him coming back as soon as possible."

Martinez sat out the win over Burnley last Saturday, with Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof instead starting at centre-back. The Argentine's absence now means that Evans is set for an extended spell in Ten Hag's side.

United have suffered a further blow with the news that Reguilon has also suffered an injury. The left-back will miss the clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday.

While the Red Devils have tried to play down the severity of his problem, The Athletic report he could be missing until after next month’s international break.

United are now without a senior left-back, with Reguilon only arriving on loan in the summer after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. Reguilon was absent from the win over Palace in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

And it is stated that he is doubtful for the Champions League clash with Galatasaray and the Premier League trip to Brentford. The double blow only adds to Erik ten Hag's problems, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka also ruled out.

There is some positive news following Tuesday's win over Palace though. Ten Hag is hopeful that Mason Mount will be ready to start after playing 45 minutes against the Eagles.

Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire also started, relieving Ten Hag's concerns at centre-back somewhat. But with no senior left-backs, Sofyan Amrabat could be forced to deputise in that position once again, though the United boss has backed the Moroccan to succeed.

Ten Hag said: "I know he's capable. I said before, he is a player [who] if the team needs him, he will play there. And then he gives contribution to the team and that is quality, but also qualities, also then the energy and the dynamic he brings."
