When it comes to household chores, many people will agree that doing the washing up is up there as one of the worst jobs to do. After cooking a meal, the last thing you want to do is spend forever scrubbing away at the sink.

So if you're lucky enough to own a dishwasher, it can definitely make life easier to just throw all of your dirty plates and pots in and let it do all the hard work for you.

However, a cleaning expert has claimed that we're using our dishwasher all wrong, and it's causing a hike in energy bills. Known as the Clean Of Queen Lynsey Crombie, the cleaning guru shared with viewers of This Morning how to run your dishwasher more efficiently with her savvy tips and tricks to help keep costs down.

Known as the Clean Of Queen Lynsey Crombie, the cleaning guru shared with viewers of This Morning how to run your dishwasher more efficiently with her savvy tips and tricks to help keep costs down. The first tip she gave was to not rinse your dishes before you put them in the dishwasher.

She advises to "scrape off what you can" and ditch the pre-rinse cycle. She said: "Most dishwashers today are powerful enough to get all the gunk off, so a lot of pre-rinsing by hand is often just a waste of water and time." There's another product you can save you money on too: "Ditch the rinse aid and instead use white vinegar. It is a lot cheaper and does the same job."

Next up, Lynsey urges people to always "stick to good quality tablets" as they are much more effective and will save you from having to do any additional washing of dishes". Another way to keep costs down is to run it when it is full and use an eco-cycle if you have one. "Every modern dishwasher has a special energy-efficiency setting that uses less power to heat the water by heating the water more slowly over a longer cycle," Lynsey explained.

Finally, instead of doing a drying cycle, the expert shared her simple hack instead. She revealed: "To avoid doing the full drying cycle, simply grab a tea towel and at the end of the cleaning cycle, place the towel within the door of the dishwasher and close it. All you have to do is wait five minutes, and the dishes will be dry and ready to be put away."
