Brentford fans pilled further misery on Aaron Ramsdale by singing a pro-David Raya chant during Arsenal's trip to the Gtech Community Stadium.

Ramsdale has been the Gunners' first-choice goalkeeper for the last two seasons but recently lost his place to Raya, who joined Arsenal from Brentford in the summer. Raya replaced Ramsdale for their trip to Everton and the Spaniard kept his spot for the Champions League game against PSV and the North London derby on Sunday.

However, Mikel Arteta chose to rotate his pack and bring Ramsdale back into the side to face the Bees in the Carabao Cup. He was one of eight changes from the 2-2 draw against Tottenham, with Ben White, Gabriel and Eddie Nketiah the only three to stay in the side.

After coming back into the XI, Ramsdale was taunted by the Brentford supporters after being dropped for Raya, who made 161 appearances for the Bees during his four-year spell at the club. Raya is still technically a Brentford player following his season-long loan move to the Emirates in August, but Arsenal do have an option to buy.

"You're just a s*** David Raya," was the chant from the Brentford faithful to Ramsdale. However, the Arsenal fans showed their support to the ex-Sheffield United man by singing "England's number one".

Ramsdale ended up impressing for Arsenal in their 1-0 win in west London. He made a terrific second-half save to deny Frank Onyeka's long-range strike - and made a further two stops during the match as the Gunners secured their place in the fourth round, with Reiss Nelson scoring the winner.

It has been a whirlwind few weeks for Ramsdale, meanwhile, after starting for England against Scotland, before losing his place in the Gunners side. The Three Lions shot-stopper came under fire from Jamie Carragher after appearing to applaud one of Raya's saves in the north London derby.

Carragher told Sky Sports: "I thought it was like the Oscars, you know when someone loses the Oscar and they start clapping and smiling for the other person. I was laughing when I saw that. He’s absolutely devastated with that really." Ramsdale's dad Nick wasn't impressed and called him a "disgrace".

Liverpool legend Carragher was then asked for his thoughts on Nick's rant during the most recent episode of The Overlap. He said: "It was a joke! I will never say anything back and in some ways I admire it. My son plays and it is completely different to being a fan or a pundit."
