A series of newly released emails have revealed how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's worked tirelessly behind the scenes to have them seen in a good light in scenes filmed for their $100million Netflix documentary during a trip to New York City.

The exchange of messages shows that influential aides working for the Sussexes went to extreme lengths to make sure the couple were seen how they wanted to be. One exchange regarding one stop on the three day tour even saw reps for the couple suggest they should bring cushions and a new carpet to a school in a low-income area of the city so that it would be more suited to Meghan's aesthetic.

The email files showed Archewell staff seemingly negotiating which schools the pair would visit as well as drafting press releases several times to make the appearance sound 'more substantial' and making amendments to public diaries of top school officials.

Press lists were said to be kept to publications which favour Meghan according to the documents obtained by DailyMail.com. These sites included Vogue and other high-end glossy magazines, while British tabloids were banned from the events. Other documents within the emails included a consent form for the filming that banned students at Harlem elementary school from discussing or making negative comments about the project or the famous couple's visit.

The trip to New York in September 2021 saw a camera crew follow Harry and Meghan for a series of public outings filmed for their six-part Netflix documentary that hit screens in December last year. The correspondence seems to show that planning for the trip started six months prior in April 2021 and was headed up by former New York City Department of Education employee Toya Holness.

Day two of their trip saw Meghan and Harry visit P.S. 123 in Harlem - an inner city school in which 95 per cent of the students qualify for free or reduced price meals due to coming from low-income families. The emails reportedly show that three days prior to the visit Archewell reps got in touch with the New York City Department of Education asking them to give their lawyers a 'location' and 'appearance' release form.

One section read: "I agree that without the prior written approval of (the) Producer, I shall not discuss this Appearance Release, the Material, the Project itself, or my participation therein with any third party prior to the initial exhibition of the episode of the Project in which I appear." The document also banned any posts on social media "now or in the future" about the filming.

It stated: "I agree to not make negative, derogatory, or otherwise unfavorable statements about, or otherwise denigrate or disparage, any of the Released Parties." When asked what the footage was for the response from Holness was unclear.

She said they were "capturing archival content for future use, including potential digital/production projects."

Archewell and representatives from Penguin Random House publishing team were also seen discussing aesthetics at the school in their email exchanges. Dominique Cimina, a publicist from Penguin Random House wrote: "My team is looking into all things carpet, cushions, décor etc. More to come."

A video clip from the reading of The Bench showed Meghan sitting on a blue box under a tent in the playground while Harry sat on a green mat and green cushions with the pupils. The two press teams had a further email exchange about the press release regarding the reading

Holness was seen complaining that information about the book was deleted from the release writing: 'I like all your edits, except the Bench section. If you take out all the info about the book, I think it's weird to only have her bio and not his (Harry)." Filson replied: 'Yes totally! Just wanted to make it a bit less promotion-ey.'

Following the release of the documents, fans took to social media to express their thoughts on the demands, with one user writing: "I beg their pardon? These DEMANDS were behind ridiculous! How can they demand that from one of the poorest schools in NYC? Harry & Meghan requested cushions, new carpet, & outdoor space to film Harlem elementary students for their Netflix documentary."
