EA Sports has cancelled the first EA FC 24 Ultimate Team Champions Finals event, with a new start date now confirmed for next month.

EA FC 24 is set for a worldwide release this Friday, September 29, when players all over the globe can finally get their hands on EA's spirtiual successor to FIFA 23. Players with the EA FC 24 Ultimate Edition and EA Play Members have been able to access the game since last Friday through early access, but one segment of the game that hasn't been available is the UT Champions Finals event.

It seemed that EA was waiting for the full EA FC 24 release before opening up the most popular event in Ultimate Team, with EA initially confirming in-game that the first Champions Finals event will begin this week on the same date as the worldwide release. But since then, without any reasoning, EA has opted to change the EA FC 24 Ultimate Team Champions Finals start date, pushing it back to next month.

EA FC 24 UT Champions Finals start date

EA confirmed on Twitter via its @EASFCDirect communications account that the EA FC 24 Ultimate Team Champions Finals start date was getting postponed, with a new start date of Friday, October 6. It didn't offer any other context, so we have no idea why the change has been made, but it has left many players with early access frustrated after spending lots of time qualifying for the Finals that were meant to start this Friday.

The UT Champions Finals is an ultra-competitive, time-limited mode in Ultimate Team where players will face other qualified players for a chance to earn some big rewards. In order to qualify for the Champions Finals, players must play Division Rivals to earn Champions Qualification Points, and once they have earned a certain amount, they must then advance through the Champions Play-Offs to reach the Finals. It's quite a time-consuming process, so it's understandable to why some fans aren't too happy with the decision!

But, at the same time, the change to the EA FC 24 Ultimate Team Champions Finals start date does make sense. With the game being released worldwide on the same day as the original Champions Finals start date, players who didn't have early access would not have been able to qualify in time, so they would all miss out on the event.

Pushing back the start date to next week gives these players time to earn enough qualification points and advance through the Champions Play-Offs, meaning next week's Champions Finals could have a huge player pool. The rewards available through playing the Champions Finals have been updated for EA FC 24, with EA removing the infamous red picks.

We reached out to EA for further elaboration as to why, but have not received a response.
