Jamie Carragher responds to Aaron Ramsdale's dad after comments on goalkeeper
Jamie Carragher insists his "Oscars" comment about Aaron Ramsdale was a "joke" - after the goalkeeper's dad hit out at the pundit.
Carragher left the Ramsdale family furious after mocking the Arsenal stopper's reaction to David Raya's save against Tottenham on Sunday. The Englishman applauded his team-mate from the bench and pulled an impressed facial expression.
Ramsdale was Arsenal's first-choice goalkeeper during the previous two seasons but recently lost his place to Raya, who was signed on loan from Brentford during the summer. Ramsdale now faces a tough fight to regain his spot at the Emirates.
Carragher was asked for his thoughts on Ramsdale's reaction and claimed the stopper was acting, insisting he is "absolutely devastated with that really". Ramsdale's dad Nick wasn't impressed with the Liverpool legend and called him a "disgrace".
Carragher was asked for his thoughts on Nick's rant during the most recent episode of The Overlap. He said: "It was a joke! I will never say anything back and in some ways I admire it. My son plays and it is completely different to being a fan or a pundit."

Ramsdale's reaction to Raya's save went viral after the North London Derby, with fans questioning the sincerity of it. Carragher said: "I thought it was like the Oscars, you know when someone loses the Oscar and they start clapping and smiling for the other person. I was laughing when I saw that. He's absolutely devastated with that really."
Nick was furious with Carragher's comments and took to X, the website formerly known as Twitter, to react. He wrote: "You are a Disgrace!! Show some class!! My lad has."

Carragher discussed Ramsdale's axe with Arsenal legend Ian Wright on The Overlap. Wright said: "It feels very ruthless. I have been in a position where someone threatens your place.
"The cameras would have been on him regardless. Being in a dressing room, where a team is trying to get somewhere, it is what happens. Mikel Arteta is meticulous, he has seen something at the end of last season and brought Raya in."
Carragher added: "He obviously feels Raya is better than Ramsdale. He has got to keep him onside and play him in certain games. I think Ramsdale is a good goalkeeper but I don't think he is a great one. He was in this position on the flip side when he came in and took Leno's place.
"Look at Alisson coming in at Liverpool and Ederson at City, it completely changed those clubs. Whether Raya can get to that level, we will see."
