Wedding days are a big deal as it's the ultimate declaration of love for a couple, and each pair will have things in their ceremonies and receptions that are a nod to their relationship, or their favourite things. That's why one couple decided that, instead of a sit-down meal, they would serve McDonald's as a "treat" - and because it works out much cheaper.

Groom Thomas Billaudeau posted a video on TikTok of the reaction to the familiar brown takeaway bags being brought into the room, and everyone excitedly cheered as they waited to get their hands on some deep-fried goodness.

The video was captioned: "Thanks for the treat at our wedding", and in the video, the bride Ophélie can be seen gesturing to the back of the room as the delivery driver enters - and guests then go wild, screaming excitedly. Bags and bags of food were placed on the table, and whilst it may seem like the dream for many, others criticised the couple in the comments for their choice of the beige buffet, slating them for being "cheap."

Someone jibed: "Given the price of McDonald's now it's better to take a caterer and you'll have quality as well." Another unimpressed viewer said: "This is ridiculous."

Others defended the couple, however, saying that their budget meal made a lot more sense. One wrote: "In fact, if you don't have the budget for a crazy wedding, it's generally very good, it's not the meal you remember from the day."

Another said: "I don't understand people, a wedding isn't necessarily about rhinestones and sequins, it's about enjoying and uniting their unions." A TikToker praised: "Finally, people who have the wedding they want to have without going into debt to show off. Be happy!"

The couple have since defended their choice to local media, and the bride told Le Parisien newspaper: 'We looked at the price of some caterers but I am a fussy eater. I was afraid that we were going to pay for something that we did not like. If you are going to pay, you may as well get something you like."
