Rylan 'devastated' at Big Brother snub after 'presuming' he'd land job with ITV

Rylan Clark fumed at Big Brother bosses after he "presumed" he'd be asked to join the brand-new launch series on ITV. The former Bit on the Side presenter worked on the popular programme on Channel 5 and even won Celebrity Big Brother.

After news was announced of the show's revival on ITV, Rylan has kept his cards close to his chest, but occasionally hinted at his involvement. It wasn't until the last minute that he was informed he wouldn't have anything to do with the programme.

Detailing his "devastation" on Tuesday morning's episode of Loose Women, Rylan admitted feeling "naive" and "stupid" for thinking he'd be guaranteed a job on the new series of Big Brother. He says he didn't find out until moments before the public reveal.

"I mean, obviously, Big Brother was a massive part of my life. It was my favourite thing in the world to do," he told the panel on Loose Women. "For the past five years when it's been off, I've been very vocal saying it should come back.

"I my eyes - and still is - the best reality show out there. In [my book] Ten, I didn't know what was going on with Big Brother. I said very much I hope I'm a part of it. And I suppose naively and, erm, stupidly to a point, I just thought 'I've been there for six or seven years... I love the show so much'. I just sillily presumed I would be asked back."

Rylan said he knew Emma Willis wasn't going back, but still thought he would be in with a chance of a job at ITV. He added: "And I wasn't. It didn't transpire to be. You know, I could be one of those people now who sits there and goes 'it's what I wanted'. It wasn't what I wanted.

"I would've gone back to Big Brother in a heartbeat. And it was... quite difficult actually, because I didn't find out until near on when everyone else found out which I was quite upset about. But, I genuinely, hand on heart, wish everyone well because I've wanted that show to come back for a long time. But from a personal point of view I was devasted."

Big Brother: The Launch will air on ITV1, ITV2 and ITVX on Sunday, October 8 at 9pm in a disruptive multi-channel and streaming takeover. The remainder of the series will be available nightly at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX - apart from Saturdays.
