Family pay tribute as man charged with murdering woman found dead in flat

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman found in a Blackpool flat.

Alison Dodds, 51, was found at the property on Redcar Road last Thursday, and a post mortem examination found that Alison died as a result of multiple serious injuries. On Monday, detectives arrested 35-year-old Alex Hindley, of Redcar Road, Blackpool, and he has now been charged with murder.

“We are shook up and upset," Alison’s family said in a tribute. "We all love her and miss her.” Lancashire Police stated: "Our thoughts remain with her loved ones, who are being supported by specially trained officers."

A police statement read: "We were called shortly before 11am on Thursday (September 21) to an address on Redcar Road to report that a woman, now identified as 51-year-old Alison, had sadly been found deceased in a flat. A Home Office post mortem examination established that Alison died as a result of multiple serious injuries."

It continued: "Yesterday, detectives arrested a 35-year-old man from Blackpool on suspicion of murder. Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Alex Hindley, 35, of Redcar Road, Blackpool, has been charged with murder. He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Blackpool Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

Following the death police patrols were increased in the area, and detectives have been asking people to come forward with any footage or information which could help the investigation. Det Chief Insp Jane Webb, of Lancashire Police’s Force Major Investigation Team, said: “First and foremost, my thoughts are with Alison’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.

"This is a tragic case, but our investigation team is determined to find out the full circumstances surrounding her death. We’d ask that anyone who may have information that could be useful to the investigation, please contact us as soon as possible.

"We appreciate that this incident will have caused concern in the community. I would like to reassure people that we have stepped up patrols in the area, and you can expect to see a visible police presence for some time. If you have any concerns or information, please approach an officer.”
