Car expert warns you should never press 'risky' button while driving in autumn
When driving, it's always important to be aware of any potential hazards on the road around you - but it's just as crucial to consider the potential risks that could be lurking inside your car as well so you don'tfind yourself in a dangerous situation.
An expert has now shared an urgent warning for those getting into the car this autumn and it's all to do with a button on your vehicle's dashboard. According to Andrew Jervis, the CEO of ClickMechanic, there's one simple button you should never press when starting up your car in the cooler months of the year as it could prove 'deadly'.
Speaking to the Express, Jervis explained that drivers should avoid the recirculation button in their car, as it could end up impacting their vision. This is a button that is typically found on the centre console behind the car's gear stick, near the heating controls. It features a picture of a car with an arrow looping around in one direction, to indicate the airflow recirculating around the vehicle.
According to the expert, petrol and diesel drivers could be put at risk by hitting this button as it could cause moisture to become trapped in the vehicle, which in turn would steam up the windscreen and make it impossible to see. This could also create a warmer temperature within the car that could prove risky for drivers by making them feel drowsy behind the wheel.
He said: "We're approaching the colder months and that can bring a number of problems to motorists, from icy or misty windows to increasingly hazardous road conditions. Demisting windows can be a fairly simple task but there is one button many drivers turn to for help that can actually make the problem worse. Drivers should avoid using the recirculation button during winter months as it traps the moisture inside the vehicle, making it more difficult to clear your windows of dew.

"This can reduce the driver's visibility of the road and any hazards, while also risking the air inside the vehicle becoming too warm and leading to the driver becoming drowsy. Both of these situations can be potentially deadly, so it's important to know how to demist your vehicle safely and effectively."
He added that drivers often hit the recirculation button when car windows start to fog up due to the difference in temperature inside and outside. This happens often in the chillier months as people crank up the heat inside their vehicles to stay warm. But instead of reaching for the recirculation button, the expert urges people to use a more old-fashioned method to clear their windscreen and simply stop in a safe place and wipe the windows with a cloth.
This comes after another mechanic warned drivers with the start-stop feature on their vehicle to always disable it before they start driving. Scotty Kilmer, who has worked in the car industry for more than 55 years explained in a video online: "Most of the wear on your engine occurs when you start the car. The oil at the bottom of the engine, the oil pump has to spin, pump the oil to the top of the engine, and start lubricating," he explained. "Every time you shut the car off the oil goes back down, it's got to be pumped back up again. Do you really want to be starting and stopping your car all the time?"
While there's no way to completely turn off this feature, Scotty demonstrated in one of his YouTube videos how you can disable it. All you have to do is press a small button that features the letter 'A' within a circle. The A button can be found in many modern vehicles, usually among the centre console buttons.
