My Mum, Your Dad's Natalie Russell reflected on her "bittersweet" split from Paul Edwards after Friday's finale, saying she was having some "decompression time". The couple called it quits after appearing on the popular ITV programme, dubbed "middle-aged Love Island ".

Hosted by Davina McCall, the reality TV dating show saw Natalie and Paul's romance blossom, but since filming finished four months ago, the pair struggled to make it work long distance. "We are both still friends and wish each other the best," Natalie explained previously.

But after series one's conclusion, she uploaded a new update, getting emotional after watching back "such hope and excitement" on the show's last episode. Taking to Instagram, Natalie explained: "Hey everyone. Firstly, thanks so much for everyone's support.

"I've had some incredible messages in my inbox. I am just having some decompression time. It has been a very bittersweet week for me. We ended in August, so I have had some time to process things before the show aired.

"It was weird watching it back and seeing the hope and excitement that I had definitely has brought up feelings again. I also have some stuff going on outside of this experience so I am not ignoring your messages I will respond I just need a few days to decompress and I will catch up with you soon."

It comes after an insider claimed the couple's relationship outside of the show "proved too tricky". They told The Sun: "As is so often the case with these dating shows, it's easy for a connection to flourish while in the bubble of filming - there's no distractions, no real life concerns and you're united in one common goal to find love.

"Natalie and Paul's flame burned bright for a few months but balancing life on the outside with nurturing their fledgling relationship proved too tricky. With Natalie in Bournemouth and Paul in Bath the distance wasn't insurmountable, but they were both independent people who had great lives of their own and in the end they decided their love wasn't greater than the hurdles."

Initially announcing the pair's split on Instagram, Natalie admitted they both "decided to call a day on the relationship" but remain "friends". She added: "We wish each other the best, I also made some incredible friendships that I'm so grateful for.

"Thank you for your continued support and we're very thankful to @davinamccall @itv @mymumyourdaduk for all we gained from the experience." Friday's finale saw the parents and their children enjoy a heartwarming reunion as they caught up with their parents and met up with their parents' potential partners.

The children shared their concerns and honest opinions about the relationships after watching everything happen from behind a screen. As the series came to an end, fans were an emotional wreck as they begged producers for another season of the show.
