Love Island star sets sights on EastEnders as they discuss career change
Former Love Island star Idris Virgo is turning away from his reality roots and aiming for legitimate fame by reinventing himself as an actor - and he has a major soap in his sights.
The 30-year-old TV star was a contestant on season four of the hit ITV2 reality romance show back in 2018 alongside winners Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham and fellow star Zara McDermott. And while his time on the show was limited, the former boxer his high hopes of making it in the world of soaps.
Idris wouldn’t limit his plans to the small screen, however, as he would also love to flex his acting muscles on the big screen. He told the Daily Star: “I do want to start acting, I want to get into acting and hopefully get into a small series or a cameo in one of those movies."
“I just love to do it. Come on man, I've got a good name, Idris Virgo needs to be out there, it’s destined to be. So I'd love to do a bit of acting next year, I'd love to do a bit of acting." He added: “I’d love to do a soap, I’m still a big EastEnders fan and Hollyoaks. Either EastEnders or Hollyoaks I'd love to do either one of them.”

Fans can currently see Idris boxing (Getty Images)Going into more detail about his soap role plans, he went on to explain that he would like to play a villain and go up against Steve McFadden’s notorious gangster Phil Mitchell on the BBC show. Until his career move comes to fruition, fans can see Idris in the ring in celebrity boxing matches - and will next be seen going up against ex-Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers in the upcoming Misfits Boxing match.

Idris wouldn’t be the first Love Island star to make the leap into acting, however. Season three winner Amber Davies has gone on to carve out an impressive theatre career - appearing in West End productions of 9 to 5 and Back to the Future.
Season five contestant Curtis Pritchard made his acting debut in Hollyoaks in 2021 - featuring alongside his brother, former Strictly star AJ Pritchard and performing to unfortunate reviews. While fellow season five star Maura Higgins was recently announced to be joining the cast of an upcoming British film. A source told The Sun earlier this month: “Maura plays a character called Rose in The Spin. It’s a British film which follows two friends travelling through Ireland looking for old music records.
She started work on The Spin over the weekend in Belfast and really impressed the producers… The film could open a lot of new doors for Maura and it’s a very exciting time.” The source went on to claim that film bosses considered Maura the “perfect fit” for her role and it is said she is throwing herself into the new challenge and has demonstrated a drive to learn.
