iPhone users should install the latest iOS software update offered by Apple—or risk critical security threats. Every iPhone model sold from 2018 onwards has been issued with changes, which provide a number of 'bug fixes and security updates' that hackers and cybercriminals can use to target your private data and lock you out of your device.

This includes three 'zero-day' rated bugs which means they have already been identified by hackers and could be deployed in attacks on innocent users at any time.

You should receive a pop-up notification instructing you to install the new update. Once it's installed on your iPhone, you'll be safe for the time being. If you miss the pop-up window, don't worry as you can voluntarily install the update at any time by opening the Settings app on your iPhone and tapping General > Settings > Software Update. You are looking for either iOS 16.7 and iOS 17.0.1.

The fixes come hot on the heels of the release of iOS 17 which just came out last week.

iOS 17 brings a ton of new features to the table for iPhone users, including the popular Standby Mode which turns your iPhone into a handy digital display where you can see your calendar, photos, and other widgets whenever it's charging.

On top of that, there's the addition of the Journal app, Contact Drop, Live Voicemail, Live Stickers, and upgrades to widgets and iMessage.

If you own a relatively recent iPhone model (iPhone XS and up), iOS 17 gives you the chance to enjoy many of the same software features as owners of the new iPhone 15.
