Legal expert claims Sophie Turner's lawsuit 'isn't particularly strong'
A legal expert on the American morning show Good Morning America said he believed that Sophie Turner's lawsuit against her estranged husband, Joe Jonas, isn't a "strong argument."
Sophie is suing Joe for alleging he's trying to keep their two young daughters in America and not let her take them to England with her as reportedly previously planned. In court documents obtained by The Mirror, Sophie alleges that Joe is keeping their daughters' passports and that she found out about the divorce days after it was filed through social media. The couple are ending their marriage after four years.
On Friday's episode of the show, Dan Abrams, the ABC News chief legal analyst spoke to two of the hosts of the popular morning show, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan. "She's basically saying he's abducted the kids and this isn't a particularly strong argument in this context," Dan said.
The law expert believes Sophie's argument would be stronger if the children were older (ABC)The legal expert added that the children were born in the US, the oldest in California and the youngest in Florida. While they're dual citizens of the US and the UK, Dan believes that because of their young ages the case of their "habitual residence" being England isn't a strong case.

"The key argument that she's making is this habitual residence she's basically saying they were residents of England," Dan added, "These are very small kids." The oldest daughter, Willa, is three years old, and the youngest, who has only been named by her initials DMJ in the lawsuit, turned one year old in July.
Dan argued that if the children were teenagers who lived in England "most of their lives" it would be a different story. "When you're talking about little kids like this, that argument isn't as strong," he said.
The couple were married for four years before divorcing (ABC)He also added that Sophie including that the couple recently sold their Miami residence in the lawsuit "doesn't matter at all" along with the fact that the couple reportedly spoke about raising their family in England. Joe's representative told The Mirror: "The Florida court has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children. Sophie was served with this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago." He also claimed that she knew about the divorce before Joe filed.
Dan added that the lawsuit made it seem like the problem was international when it wasn't. "This is a child custody issue, not an international incident. And that is what her lawsuit is making it out to be and I think that's why this isn't going to go anywhere for now until they make some of the bigger picture decisions," he said.
The Good Morning America segment ended with Dan pointing out that the children's well-being is the most important thing. "They're gonna have to figure out what's in the best interest for the kids," he said.
