First picture of 'loving' schoolgirl, 14, who died in suspected drugs tragedy
A heartbroken family have paid tribute to a "loving daughter, sister, auntie and friend" after the schoolgirl died in a suspected drugs death.
Carly Kilpatrick, 14, from Inverkeithing High School, fell ill at an address in the town of Fife, Scotland, at around 2.45am on Monday. She was rushed to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, but despite medics best efforts, she was sadly pronounced dead shortly after.
Her family have since revealed she was a "keen" footballer who played for several local teams including Bayside FC. Inverkeithing United Football Club cancelled training on Wednesday, which was the same day as her vigil took place.
An emotional statement from her family, released through Police Scotland on Friday, read: “We are devastated by the loss of Carly and the circumstances surrounding her death. Carly was a loving daughter, sister, auntie and friend. She was a keen footballer and played for many local teams and will be deeply missed by us all. We would like to thank all the services involved in helping us with their support. We’d like to request that our privacy be respected whilst we grieve for Carly.’"

One message read: "Carly you were an absolute angel and you will be missed so much. I just want you to know that you could put a smile on anyone's face when they were upset. I know you will be looking down on us and will be so proud of everyone." Another message read: "Sleep tight Carly doll."

Fife Council’s education manager Karen Lees said: “We are aware of the tragic and untimely death of a young person from Inverkeithing High School. We are supporting the school community and in particular any pupils who knew this young person, providing space, time and help to those who might be impacted by this terrible event.”
Police Scotland has confirmed that her death is being treated as "unexplained." Officers have arrested a male, aged 17, and charged him in connection with a drugs offence. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.45am on Monday, 18 September, 2023, officers were called to a report of a 14-year-old girl taking unwell within a property in Inverkeithing.
"Emergency services attended, and she was taken by ambulance to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. She was pronounced deceased a short time later. Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are continuing. A 17-year-old male has been arrested and charged in connection with a drugs offence and released pending further enquiries. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
