A heartbroken family have paid tribute to a "loving daughter, sister, auntie and friend" after the schoolgirl died in a suspected drugs death.

Carly Kilpatrick, 14, from Inverkeithing High School, fell ill at an address in the town of Fife, Scotland, at around 2.45am on Monday. She was rushed to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, but despite medics best efforts, she was sadly pronounced dead shortly after.

Her family have since revealed she was a "keen" footballer who played for several local teams including Bayside FC. Inverkeithing United Football Club cancelled training on Wednesday, which was the same day as her vigil took place.

An emotional statement from her family, released through Police Scotland on Friday, read: “We are devastated by the loss of Carly and the circumstances surrounding her death. Carly was a loving daughter, sister, auntie and friend. She was a keen footballer and played for many local teams and will be deeply missed by us all. We would like to thank all the services involved in helping us with their support. We’d like to request that our privacy be respected whilst we grieve for Carly.’"
