BREAKING: Shooting at Toyota Albany: Two feared shot at service centre

At least two people are feared to have been shot by a gunman at the Toyota Certified Service Center on the border between Berkeley and Albany in California. The suspect has reportedly also been shot dead by police who raided the building, and there is no active threat.

Heavy police activity was reported earlier in the area after reports of an active shooter. Emergency vehicles had reportedly blocked the entrance to the facility and police asked people to avoid the area.

Nearby businesses had reportedly been instructed to shelter in place by authorities. Reports claimed that a suspect had been shot by police who raided the building. A Target store is at the same site.

In an update, the Berkeley Police Department confirmed that a suspect shot someone inside the Toyota dealership. The condition of the victim is not known as of yet.

When police arrived, someone opened fire and police fired back, killing the suspect. Police said in a press briefing that there is no active threat after the suspect was shot. However, they said the area will remain closed for some time. A Toyota employee told reporters that the incident happened on the building's second floor when someone shouted "gun!" and employees evacuated the building.

Officer Jessica Perry added during the press conference: "Berkeley Police Department cleared the building, officers were met by gunfire, so somebody inside that building did have a gun." University of California Berkeley Police issued a warning on the platform WarnMe alerting residents to "avoid the area of Eastshore between Buchanan and Harrison until further notice."

"Police are responding to an active crime scene," they added. Pictures from the scene showed dozens of emergency vehicles responding to the incident.
