Strictly in chaos as bedbound Shirley Ballas fears she could miss live show
Strictly Come Dancing star Shirley Ballas has sparked fears she could miss this weekend’s shows as she has revealed she has been struck down with illness.
The 63-year-old BBC star has been a judge on the long-running dance show since 2017 when she took over as main judge after original star Len Goodman bowed out of the show. And while Shirley has been a favourite for viewers, fans of the BBC show are anxious she might not appear this weekend after she gave a worrying health update.
Taking to Instagram Stories on Wednesday, Shirley shared a video of herself looking tired and washed out while lying in her bed. She explained that she had been on a trip to Rome and had been working hard on a dance championship that is being held in London.
Addressing the camera, and sounding a little cracky, Shirley said: “What a difference a day makes. So back from Rome where it was busy, lots of people and then in the studio because we are running up to the Royal Albert Hall international championships.

On a lighter note, Shirley went on to ask fans and social media followers to share their favourite air fryer brands as she was considering buying one before she drew attention back to her ill health. She said: “To anyone else feeling under the weather, I’m sending you lots of love, and cuddles. And I’m really excited about Saturday, wait until you see this show. It is phenomenal.
“I think actually all of them will be staying until the final, they are all that good.”

Speaking to the camera again, she said: “Feeling poo, poo but mum made me two boiled eggs in my favourite little pot and some toast. I never eat toast and some black tea. What would I do without my mum? I feel blessed.”
Shirley shares the judging panel with Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood, and Motsi Mabuse. Strictly only returned to screens last weekend with an extravagant launch show that revealed which professional dancers each celebrity has been paired up with.
Early favourites Bobby Brazier and Zarah McDermott have been paired with Dianne Buswell and Graziano Di Prima respectively. Channel 4 newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy - who has been paired with Lauren Oakley - is the bookies favourite to be the first star to face the chop with one celebrity due to be booted off the show in scenes set to air on Sunday night.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday night on BBC One at 6:15pm and is available to watch via BBC iPlayer.
