England have named their final 15-man squad for the Cricket World Cup - with Yorkshire batter Harry Brook earning a late call-up.

But there is no room for 2019 hero Jason Roy, who has been struggling with injury.

It initially appeared Brook, who has enjoyed a stellar 2023 with the bat in multiple formats, would miss out on the squad after he was not named for the warm-up series against New Zealand.

But Roy's injury problems meant he was called up as batting cover, and although he didn't set the world alight, he now replaces the Surrey man in the final squad to tour India.

Selector Luke Wright said: "We have selected a squad we are confident can go to India and win the World Cup.

“We are blessed with an incredibly strong group of white-ball players which was underlined by the performances in the series win against a very good New Zealand team.

“The strength of the group has meant that we have had to make some tough decisions on world-class players with Jason Roy missing out and Harry Brook coming into the squad.”

Brook's omission from the initial 15-man squad for the New Zealand series was met with widespread criticism, and he justified the calls for a rethink with a spectacular century in The Hundred before a pair of impressive displays for England in T20s.

Roy's fitness has prevented him from featuring against the Blackcaps, and England have likely seen Brook's versatility through positions one to seven as justification to select him as the spare batter.

Dawid Malan has made the opening spot his own alongside Jonny Bairstow as he was named man of the series against New Zealand, scoring a century in the most recent clash.

England squad: Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Atkinson, Bairstow, Brook, Curran, Livingstone, Malan, Rashid, Root, Stokes, Topley, Willey, Wood, Woakes.
