'Hormones made me change baby's name last-minute - now I'm really embarrassed'
One of the biggest decisions you'll have to make when you're pregnant is what to call the new bundle of joy that will be coming into your life. Through nine months of pregnancy you will no doubt have several people asking you what the name will be.
It's one of those really tough decisions, because it has to be not only something you like, but a name your child will be proud to have. You've got many months to choose - but it doesn't always turn out to be the right choice.
One woman explained that she and her partner had considered the name Marigold for their daughter all through pregnancy, however, they eventually decided it was "a bit too trendy for what they were after". So, 24 hours after their daughter was born, they settled on Sofia, which they were both surprised by.
It was on their of their baby names lists, and it was "honestly totally random". In a recent Reddit post, the anonymous woman wrote: "We liked the international appeal and, at the time, felt like it was relatively timeless given its Ancient Greek roots."
However, the new mum now suspects "postpartum hormones" could have kicked in, as three weeks later she feels "embarrassed of the name and analyse everyone's reactions" when they introduce her to people. In the post, she continued: "I've definitely gotten a few 'huh, where did that come from?' responses. Will this likely pass, or should we consider renaming her (she has 2 solid middle names she could go by)? Also, does Sofia strike as a dated name choice?!"

In the comment section many parents reassured the woman that Sofia is a great name choice, with one person saying: "Sofia is a lovely name. It does feel timeless. It took me a while to get used to my kids' names too. By three to four months with each I couldn't imagine them as something else."
Another added: "Sofia is a beautiful and timeless name. I'd try to reclaim the narrative so you don’t feel awkward about it! it's fun that you were indecisive and then this name came to you out of the blue once you met her." A third said: "Love Sofia. I wouldn’t have liked being named marigold myself. Sofia is sweet and timeless."
