The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have hired the former bodyguard of top US politician Hillary Clinton.

Former FBI man Christopher Keenan was with Meghan when she travelled from LA to Germany this week, staying by her side at husband Prince Harry ’s Invictus Games. He was on duty alongside ex-secret service agent Christopher Sanchez, who previously protected Barack Obama.

Mr Keenan, who is 6ft 5in, worked on counter-terrorism missions and served in the US Army. A source told us: “Chris is a top operator and Meghan and Harry couldn’t hope to find anyone better. He’s an impressive guy and right at the very top of his field.” LA-based Keenan joined security firm TorchStone, which has a contract with Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, as a vice-president in April after more than 25 years as a security specialist.

That included 18 years as a special agent with the US Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service. As well as Hillary Clinton, he guarded other US Secretaries of State including Gulf War mastermind Colin Powell, ex-CIA chief Mike Pompeo and Condoleezza Rice. An online biography states: “He also established the State Department’s presence as the first accredited agency liaison officer at Europol in The Hague.

"He served on the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, investigating international and domestic terror threats to the US. He also led the protective security program as the agent in charge for the US ambassador to the United Nations, supervised the investigative unit at the US Embassy in Baghdad, and led high threat protective operations in the Middle East, West Africa, and the Palestinian territories.”

The psychology graduate’s online profile adds that he “advised multiple ultra high net worth clients and their families, leading all aspects of their security”. This included “estate security at multiple residences; ground, air, and maritime travel; screening and vetting of household staff, and corporate, legal, and law enforcement liaison.” He also specialises in “executive protection, event and venue security coordination, threat and vulnerability assessments, risk mitigation, secure travel operations and logistics”.
