Creepy crawlies making their way into the residencies of people up and down the UK could be prevented with an orange oil blend.

A home hack guru believes their mixture of rosemary, water and orange oil is enough to prevent spiders, flies and other insects from invading your home. The "sure-fire" blend is allegedly capable of keeping the creatures at bay and offers up a healthier alternative than chemically-induced sprays. Mama Mila, who boasts millions of followers online, says the natural mixture is enough to keep any home free of spiders and other bugs.

Expert Chantel Mila says all it takes is a cup of water with some rosemary sprigs mixed in with orange oils. Australians were keen to share the top tips as they enter the pest-heavy season, and it seems they are on to a sure-fire spider prevention tool.

She said: "Mix a cup of water with sprigs of rosemary. Spray on windows and doors - spiders hate the smell of rosemary, so it repels them from entering your home." When it comes to deterring fruit flies, Mila added: "Pour boiling water down the drain to deter fruit flies and their eggs."

Her quick fixes for fending off insects also saw a mop-related trick, with oils brushed across an everyday household item to make for a crawling insect repellent. Mila said: "Add orange oil to your mop to repel crawling insects. She did warn people should use these tips with "discretion" especially "around pets", the Daily Mail reported. But some were opposed to the mum-of-two's tips.

Those expecting the boiling water down the drain to be a quick fix were keen to point out they were in danger of disrupting an old Islamic tale as "jinns" live in the drains. One user said: "If you hurt or kill a jinn then you will become cursed or possessed." Others were unconvinced by the claims, with another person adding: "Fruit fly eggs actually do live and hatch in drains and boiling water is the only way to get rid of them."

Keeping spiders at bay disappointed a handful of people who say they are a "useful insect" to have around the house, but others praised the "miracle" rosemary fix. One asked: "How often do I have to use this rosemary sprinkle miracle?".

There were also warnings of using orange oils in homes with pets, with some offering up alternatives which could be safer for homes with animals. "I use peppermint oil," one user suggested, before adding they are "not sure how safe it is but it works." Another user simply suggested the easiest "fix" to growing bug problems would be not living in Australia, although the UK is facing off against insects and indoor critters of their own.
