Man dies after 'wall collapses at home' in workplace accident in Fallowfield

A man in his 40s has died after a wall reportedly collapsed on top of him at a house, said to be under renovation.

Emergency services scrambled to a house along a residential road in Fallowfield, Manchester, just before 3pm this afternoon. An air ambulance was also pictured landing nearby.

The Manchester Evening News reported that the house at the centre of the incident was under renovation. Despite the best efforts of medics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 2.50pm today (Saturday 16 September 2023), officers were called to reports of concerns for welfare of a man at an address on Lloyd Street, Manchester. It was established that a man in his 40s was involved in a workplace accident and despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing at this stage."

Witnesses at the scene reported a large emergency service presence throughout this afternoon. A cordon was put in place on the road and a screen erected outside the house. Pictures from the scene show a heavy presence of emergency service vehicles and CSI officers are also in attendance.

Neighbours set up their own cordon of bins and chairs to stop cars getting stuck between the police cordon further down. But the police cordon has since been lifted. The man has not been named and there are no reports of any other casualties.
