Jamie Carragher has doubled down on his criticism of Andre Onana after he accused the Manchester United goalkeeper of targeting "broken" Harry Maguire.
The incident occurred during a pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund, where Onana was furious after United gifted Sebastien Haller an opportunity. After the ball went out of play, the Cameroon international sprinted towards Maguire and screamed at him.
Maguire did not have a response for Onana and soaked up the berating. Since that, the ex-Leicester centre-back has been stripped of the captaincy at United but was passionately defended by England boss Gareth Southgate following the Three Lions' 3-1 win over Scotland, which saw Maguire score own-goal.
Earlier this week, Carragher admitted he felt for Maguire in his Telegraph column and believed Onana hammered the ex-United skipper to endear himself to the United fans. Barney Ronay of the Guardian, meanwhile, shared a different view and doesn't think Onana is to blame for the incident.
And now, Carragher has hit back again. He posted on social media with a response to Ronay, admitting Onana was "way over the top" to slam Maguire. He said: "I’m well aware of Onana being demonstrative at all his clubs, and I like the fact he communicates.

"But to carry on like that in a pre season game when you’ve been at the club 2mins, to the club captain, was way over the top. Any player worth their salt (Keane, Vidic, Rio, Stam…and me!) would have told him where to go & to get back in his goal.

Speaking on Wednesday, Carragher said of Onana and Maguire: "Manchester United fans jeered Maguire during pre-season games in 2022 and 2023.
"One of the most distasteful incidents of all occurred during the friendly with Borussia Dortmund in July, when new signing Andre Onana started yelling at Maguire, in my view disgracefully playing to the gallery to endear himself to United fans."
He continued: "I watched that in disbelief, but it said everything about what has gone wrong. Maguire was still the club captain then. He should have reacted furiously, put Onana in his box and demanded respect. Instead, he has the persona of someone whose confidence and authority is utterly broken."
