Newcastle and Brentford will both be hoping they can get their seasons back on track this evening when the pair meet at St James Park.
It's not the season many Newcastle fans envisioned so far with Eddie Howe's men on a three-game losing streak after posting a stunning 5-1 demolition of Aston Villa on the opening day. A home defeat to Liverpool, in which the Reds snatched all three points late on thanks to a sublime Darwin Nunez brace, was sandwiched between two away losses to Manchester City, where they were beaten 1-0, and to Brighton who ran out 3-1 winners against the Magpies.
However, Newcastle have the form guide in their favour having not lost to Thomas Frank's team since 2020 and with three wins and a draw coming in their last five games against Brentford they will be looking at this game as a launchpad for the rest of the campaign. As with Newcastle, Brentford have won just once so far in a 3-0 home victory against Fulham but draws with Spurs, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth have left them in eighth and in need of three points.

Newcastle will host Brentford today (Saturday, September 16) at St James Park and kick-off is set for 17:30 BST.

What's the team news?
Newcastle defender Sven Botman missed the defeat at Brighton after picking up an ankle injury against Liverpool and sat out the Netherlands' international games. Sandro Tonali joined up with Italy but did not play against Ukraine on Tuesday after a muscle fatigue injury, however, both could be involved today.
Miguel Almiron also picked up a knock on international duty but will be assessed ahead of the game. Brentford will be without Ivan Toney, with the former Newcastle striker serving a long-term suspension.
Mikkel Damsgaard sat out Brentford’s draw with Bournemouth before the international break and also missed international duty with a slight issue but the midfielder should be available for the trip to St James Park. Josh Dasilva and Shandon Baptiste remain long-term absentees for Frank's side.
