Hugh Jackman revealed his golden 85% rule to avoid work burn-out amid the news of his marriage ending.

Essentially, the actor advocates for individuals to be more relaxed while completing their work. According to Hugh, running at 100% effort at all times will make people perform worse. So, instead, he's advised that people should lower their effort to 85%, allowing for room to not stress, too much.

Hugh even said he uses this in his own career and work. In fact, he isn't the only one pushing for this sort of lifestyle. Gen Z and Millennial employees are vocal online about this strategy allowing them to experience more fulfillment and productivity.

As it turns out, the British are the most prone to this sort of lacklustre mindset towards work. A study from King's College London explained that out of 24 nations, Great Britain citizens tended to rank work as less important in their life. Bobby Duffy, leader of the study, explained to The Guardian: “Generally speaking, we have got more productive and better off in a period of several decades, and there is more scope to have slightly more balance in our lives between work and other things.”

TikToker Gabrielle Judge is also imploring people to take a new look at their work ethics. In fact, she told her followers to find "lazy girl jobs", which are careers that are low in effort, but the same level of reward as a standard job. She said being a "marketing associate or some type of account manager" is a place to start.

Sadly, experts said that this 85% mindset isn't necessarily practical in the real world. The reality is that many people are work insecure, meaning their job is not necessarily guaranteeing them security and may be taken at any time. Ben Harrison, the director of the Work Foundation thinktank, said: “They are very, very unlikely to be in a position where they’re saying: ‘Well, actually, I’m only going to give 85% of myself to work.’”

The trend of employees refocusing their priorities on their personal life and well-being is not new. Last year, "quiet quitting" became a trendy buzzword to define the increase in employees putting in minimal effort in their job, typically with the end result being finding a new role.
