Spider mating season is here, which means you can expect an uptick of creepy crawlies invading your home. Thankfully, you don't have to just put up with them. In fact, Chantel Mila - also known as Mama Mila online - has shared her tips on how to stop these persistent pests in their tracks.
While it isn't unusual to find spiders in the home all year round, they are more prevalent during autumn, as this is when the mating season begins. The eight-legged arachnids also use this time to scurry in from the cold to take up residency in bedrooms and bathrooms.
Mila is a home hack guru from Australia with millions of followers, and her tips to remove unwanted visitors, including bugs and fruit flies, have been praised online. Even better, they don't involve any dangerous chemicals. She uses rosemary, water and orange oil to keep her home free of spiders, fruit flies, and crawling bugs. In the video, she explains her three top tricks, with the first tip to help keep spiders away. "Mix a cup of water with sprigs of rosemary. Spray on windows and doors - spiders hate the smell of rosemary, so it repels them from entering your home," she said.
The next tip banishes fruit flies from the home. She said: "Pour boiling water down the drain to deter fruit flies and their eggs." And the third piece of advice is to prevent other crawling bugs from making themselves at home. "Add orange oil to your mop to repel crawling insects," she shared. With this tip, she said people should be careful when using essential oils around pets.
The post proved very popular - with many people thanking the mum-of-two for her tips. "Good to know my friend got bitten by a spider and ended up in the hospital," one person wrote. "I need to do this," said another. But other people warned against pouring boiling water down the drain.
