Aaron Rodgers has shared a picture from his hospital bed after undergoing successful surgery on the season-ending Achilles injury he suffered on Monday Night Football.

Rodgers saw his first regular season game for the New York Jets ended on just the fifth snap when he was sacked by Buffalo Bills rusher Leonard Floyd. He caught his left leg awkwardly on the MetLife Stadium turf and suffered a complete tear of his Achilles tendon.

Rodgers has not been seen publicly since the heartbreaking injury but broke his silence on Wednesday night to thank fans for their support. After the injury raised question marks over his future, the 39-year-old has again indicated he intends to return by referencing the start of his "road to recovery".

"Surgery went great yesterday," Rodgers wrote on social media as he shared a picture in hospital scrubs. "Thank you for all the love and prayers and support.

"And thanks to the [GOAT emoji] Dr ElAttrache and his staff for starting me on the road to recovery."

In his previous post on Wednesday night, his first public comment after the injury, Rodgers hailed his team for pulling off a dramatic 22-16 win in his absence. The Jets beat their AFC East rivals in overtime after backup Zach Wilson had replaced Rodgers.

"Thank you to every person that has reached out, called, texted, DM’d, connected through a friend, etc," Rodgers said in a heartfelt message on Instagram.

"It has meant a ton to me, and I’ll try and get back to all of you soon. I’m completely heartbroken and moving through all of the emotions, but deeply touched and humbled by the support and love. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I begin the healing process today. The night is darkest before the dawn. And I shall rise yet again. Proud of my guys, 1-0."

Despite the question marks surrounding his future after the severity of the injury became clear, it appears Rodgers has little intention of giving up on a return to the field. Speaking ahead of the season, he made it clear he viewed his stint with the Jets as more than a one-year project and intended to keep playing for a few more years.

"I think if you would’ve asked me five, six years ago, I would've said probably not," Rodgers said about playing for a few more years before his injury. "But with the change that’s happened and some of the changes off the field I’ve made, I definitely see that now as a possibility, where before I just didn’t think I’d want to, honestly.

"I’d love to play a few years here, not sure if that few is two, or three or … I mean, five would kind of get me to 45. But I definitely don’t want to be a one-and-done here."

Meanwhile, the Jets appear committed to Wilson filling in as the starting quarterback whilst Rodgers is sidelined. However, they will likely remain in the market for a new quarterback to join Wilson and Tim Boyle and offer more depth in case of further injuries later in the season.
