Joe Burrow explains 'new look' caused by brutal performance in Bengals defeat
Joe Burrow has been spotted with a new haircut as he aims to put the Cincinnati Bengals’ miserable defeat behind him.
The quarterback was held to a career-low 82 yards passing in his team’s 24-3 opening day defeat to the Cleaveland Browns on Sunday. With the cut, Burrow returns to the shorter look that he has sported for most of his NFL career. During a press conference, he was asked by a reporter when he knew it was time to take a trip to the barbers.
The 26-year-old joked: “When you have a game like that on Sunday." Later in his session with the media, another reporter asked if it was truly his motivation or if he was joking, to which Burrow responded: "A little of both." Bengals fans hope the fresh cut will inspire Burrow to return to his best following the most disappointing performance of his career last weekend.
The 2022 Super Bowl runner-up completed just 45.16 percent of his passes on Sunday. He was taken out of the game during the fourth quarter after finishing 14 of 31 with a surprisingly long completion of just 12 yards. To exacerbate Burrow’s performance, he was sacked twice and failed to throw a pass that led to a touchdown. This is far below the standard he set last season. An average of 279.7 passing yards per game and a 68.3 percent percentage in the 2022/23 campaign earned him a spot in the Pro Bowl and a fourth place finish in MVP voting.
"Nobody's panicking in here, guys," Burrow told reporters after the game. "Week 1 doesn't define anybody's season. Obviously not very good out there, but anybody that watched saw that. But we've been in been in this spot before, we've come back stronger and had great years, so that's what we're gonna do."

In the days following the defeat, Burrow added: "Like I said, long season. Everybody’s got bad games, that’s going to happen and what makes you who you are and hopefully makes you the player that you are is how you respond to games like that and how consistent you can be afterwards."

Burrow has won three of his six games against coach John Harbaugh’s men. The teams split the regular-season series in 2022 before the Bengals beat their AFC North rivals in the playoffs.
"They run the ball really well on offense, so it limits your possessions, and then their defense is tough, very physical, very sound in their scheme," Burrow said of his next opponent. "They do a great job of sending blitzes at you that you don't see on tape before, they have a lot of great week-to-week game plan stuff, so you have to be able to adapt to it. They got good players, good coach, good scheme, it's going to be a challenge."
