The Princess of Wales held a low key meeting at Windsor Castle this week, as the row over the Invictus Games continues to rage.

Kate held an Early Years meeting at the castle amid frustrations by veterans taking part in the games in Germany. In contrast Harry and Meghan put on a united front as they arrived hand-in-hand to a rapturous reception to watch the action at the Games in Dusseldorf. The couple walked out to cheers in the arena as they took their seats courtside to watch the wheelchair basketball competition. In contrast, on Tuesday, Kate visited HMP High Down in Surrey to learn about how The Forward Trust as the games were in full swing.

The Early Years meeting yesterday was part of Kate's work through her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, where she tries to promote the importance of the first five years of a child's life - efforts which have accelerated this past year.

Veterans are said to be angry the rift means some royals have ignored the event. Since it emerged relations were tense between Harry and Meghan and the rest of the Royal Family, no senior royals have attended any Invictus events, despite having close ties with the military. According to , athletes and veterans competing in the event for injured servicemen and women have expressed frustration that there has been little acknowledgement of them.

An anonymous UK media strategist earlier said: "It's ironic Buckingham Palace has had more to say about the Highland Games than the Invictus Games, despite the honorary military roles they hold. In doing so, the palace ends up looking mean-spirited and petty. The ill will against Harry should not be held against the Invictus competitors."
