Mauricio Pochettino leaves Chelsea star out of squad after forgetting about him
Malang Sarr has been left out of Chelsea's 25-man Premier League squad - weeks after Mauricio Pochettino forgot about the centre-back in a post-match conference.
The 24-year-old has not made an appearance for the Blues so far this season and has been linked with a move to Turkey before their transfer deadline on Friday. In fact, Sarr has not featured in a Chelsea shirt since the final day of the 2021/22 campaign and spent last season loan with French side Monaco.
Now Sarr's Chelsea future is firmly in doubt after Pochettino named his Chelsea squad for the rest of the Premier League season. Sarr has not made the cut, with Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella, Axel Disasi, Thiago Silva, Wesley Fofana, Reece James the selected defenders instead.
Sarr had been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest and Fulham before England's transfer window slammed shut, but neither were able to complete a deal on time. Chelsea were prepared to let Sarr go for free, despite the former Nice centre-back having two years to run on his £100k-per-week contract.
Pochettino hinted last month that Sarr was not part of his plans when he suggested that he wasn't that familiar on who he actually was. Speaking after his side's 3-0 win over Luton, the Argentine was quizzed on Sarr and Jamie Cumming, who has made the 25-man top-flight squad after impressing in pre-season.

When asked about the duo, Pochettino replied: "Who?" The reporter repeated the two names before he added: "Oh my goodness. I don't know what I can tell you. I don't know because you surprised me! It's like you punch [me in the face] and I am like this [startled]. Because we were talking about Luton!"

Nottingham Forest offered £25million for a permanent deal, but were unable to convince Chalobah to move to the Midlands.
Bayern Munich were also keen, but they were unable to strike a deal with Chelsea. This comes a matter of weeks after Chalobah captained the Blues for a pre-season match against Wrexham. Speaking in July, he said: "It’s crazy how the years are going by.
"I'm into my third season and now one of the more senior players in this young squad. To have that responsibility is good, and it is important to support the younger players and make them feel comfortable in the squad. I know what that feels like. I was once in their boots."
