A couple is facing a "brutal year" after both being diagnosed with cancer within six months of being married.
The Cleveland pair, Morgan and Shane Gray, happily married in October 2022 and "couldn’t wait to begin their lives as newlyweds," according to a fundraiser set up by a
Just months later, in February this year, Shane was diagnosed with testicular cancer that had spread to his surrounding lymph nodes. This kicked off extensive rounds of treatment including surgery and 21 chemo infusions. Thankfully he was told in June that he was cancer free.
The joy was short lived because just a few "short weeks later", Morgan was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, a type of breast cancer that develops more often in women under 40. The diagnosis was made during a breast examination.

Both were diagnosed with cancer within a year of getting married (Getty Images)The fundraiser states: "While the initial thought was that everything was fine, an ultrasound and biopsy were performed to rule anything out. The finding was yet another blow to the Gray family: Morgan had triple negative breast cancer."
Morgan had to go through a a double mastectomy and an egg retrieval procedure. She has also recently began the first of her eight chemo infusions.
The fundraiser reads: "While the prognosis for her cancer is good, given how early she detected it, the cost of both Shane and Morgan’s surgeries, chemo and IVF are starting to stack up. Between a wedding and two cancer diagnoses in less than a year, Morgan and Shane are endlessly grateful for any donation."
The two were married in Grove City, Ohio. They met after being setup by Kelli Kachmar. At the time, Shane was in Oxford attending Miami University and Morgan was in nursing school at The Christ College.
Donating to the fund, one couple said: "Sending lots of prayers and strength to this beautiful couple."
The symptoms of triple negative breast cancer are similar to other breast cancer types. These can include:
a lump or thickening in your breast or armpit
a change in the size, shape or feel of your breast
skin changes in the breast such as puckering, dimpling, a rash or redness of the skin
fluid leaking from the nipple in a woman who isn’t pregnant or breastfeeding
