Celtic loanee Nat Phillips has joked that he has an "ideal" relationship with Oasis legend and father of his girlfriend Liam Gallagher.

The centre-half has been dating the music icon's daughter, Molly, for some time and has therefore crossed paths with Gallagher on several occasions. Phillips' association with Liverpool, who remain his parent club, could've caused some friction given Gallagher is from Manchester and supports Manchester City.

He's previously mocked Liverpool in the past whilst there's a strong rivalry between the two north west cities. Despite that Phillips and Gallagher never find themselves in heated debates, which more than suits the 26-year-old.

He told the Herald: "We've never really got into that. We have obviously met but only a few times. Every time I've met him, he's been fine with me, which is ideal as a son-in-law."

Phillips, during his time as a starter at Liverpool, never came up against Guardiola's champion side. Minutes were at a premium at Anfield however with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip all ahead of him in the pecking order, which has seen him head out on loan to Bournemouth previously.

This season he's secured another temporary move away, joining up with former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead. The Scottish champions are looking to retain their title and have bought Phillips in until January. He's yet to make an appearance for the Bhoys but was present for their recent Old Firm victory at Ibrox.

Nat's father, Jimmy, knows a thing or two about the rivalry in Glasgow having played for Rangers during the late 1980s. The Celtic new boy said on the dynamic: “He’s just excited for me. He’s had his career and now I have mine - and they are two separate things.

"My dad wants me to be playing games at a high level and that’s what I’ll hopefully be doing at Celtic. The only advice he gave me was to say he played for Rangers so I’d be asked about it! But there was no specific advice in terms of Glasgow itself.

"He’ll be coming up to visit and I know he enjoyed living in the city. But generally, my dad, when we speak about my career, it’s mainly in a game-by-game basis. I’ll chat to him after games to see what he thought. But in terms of the move itself he thought it was a great one for me.”
