Celebs Go Dating star Vanessa Feltz hasn't had the smoothest time at the Channel 4 dating agency but expert Anna Williamson has opened up on the broadcaster's "positive" future.

Vanessa came under fire from Celebs Go Dating viewers for seemingly being "abrupt" with her romantic suitors but, in an exclusive interview with the Mirror, Anna set the record straight on the broadcaster's journey at the agency.

She said: "Vanessa has undoubtedly had a lot of heat on her throughout this series and we haven't escaped that either from people. But I'm really pleased that Vanessa stuck with the process and we naturally stuck with Vanessa to help bring her through."

The dating expert revealed Vanessa has undergone a huge change since she first arrived at the agency looking for advice after splitting with her ex-fiancé musician Ben Ofoedu. "She started very green at dating and now she's an absolute dating pro," Anna continued. "I hope people will be pleased to see her finish this series in a really positive place, perhaps a place that people wouldn't have assumed might happen if they'd been watching a couple of weeks ago. But Vanessa is a great example of someone who sticks with the process and we eventually get there in the end."

Meanwhile, Vanessa recently addressed her controversial moments on the show during an appearance on Good Morning Britain. She said: "Both my girls are big fans of the show and they said it's purely light-hearted, it's a bit of summer fun, you go on these dates and if you like them, you like them and if you don't you don't, it's just a bit of fun.

"So I thought it [CGD] was going to be a breath of fresh air and I didn't know it was going to generate all of these headlines, that I was going to be seen to be abrupt but god some of those dates latest hours and then just the bit where I'm like swearing my head of, that's the bit they show."

Vanessa had been previously criticised for her "closed-off" approach to potential love matches by viewers but, the broadcaster was subsequently praised when she hit back at the experts for matching her with a musician.

She told Anna and Paul Carrick Brunson: "This is identical to the relationship I have just come out of. So yes, I am absolutely closed off and there is nothing wrong with that. That is how I am. I said it clearly that I don't wish to go back there and you should understand it the first time I say it."

One viewer tweeted on the platform said: "Older women know their own mind, they've had experience and she's heartbroken. She specifically told them what type of person she needs right now and they're definitely not listening to her," and another added: "Women at her age know what they want and there's nothing wrong with that."

Celebs Go Dating continues on E4 on Thursday at 9pm.
