Exhibits identified as "alien corpses" have been paraded in front of government officials in Mexico as believers say they are proof of extraterrestrial life.

Mexican journalist and UFO researcher Jaime Maussan - who has been tracking suspected ET activity for decades - was joined by fellow scientists as they presented what appeared to be bodies of non-human creatures in a casket yesterday. The two small mummified "aliens" were displayed in windowed boxes and were reportedly found in mines in Cusco, Peru. The presenters claimed that carbon dating has placed these specimens as being 1,000 years old.

While under oath, Mr Maussan said the so-called creatures were "not part of our terrestrial evolution" and that nearly a third of their DNA is "unknown", Mexican media outlets have reported. Thirty per cent of their genetic material is said to belong to a different species.

The hearing heard the creatures are humanoids, but have just three fingers on their hands and feet, with strong but light bones. They don't have teeth and appear to have stereoscopic vision akin to birds' eyes. Their necks are retractable and sit in the centre of a wide head.

The experts, testified under oath that the beings carried eggs with embryos inside, reports El Pais. They also allegedly contain deposits of cadmium and osmium, rare metals that are now used in batteries, telecommunications and satellites. Their fingerprints also differ to humans', with straight horizontal lines rather than being rounded. Maussan told Congress: “Whether they are aliens or not, we don't know, but they were intelligent and they lived with us. They should rewrite history."

It comes after a historic first-of-its-kind hearing about UFOs and indications of alien activity was rocked by a supposed whistleblower's bombshell claims about "non-human" material found at crash sites on Earth. Former intelligence official and retired Major David Grusch testifiedWednesday to Congress claiming that a longstanding program that retrieves and reverse-engineers unidentified flying objects has been concealed. The Pentagon has denied his claims.

Asked whether the US government had information about extraterrestrial life, Mr Grusch said the US likely has been aware of “non-human” activity since the 1930s. During the hearing, Representative Nancy Mace tried to get Mr Grusch to elaborate on his knowledge of non-terrestrial bodies. She asked about the alleged recovered non-human craft, and asked if the pilots had been recovered along with the craft, which Mr Grusch said he could not confirm.
