Chelsea's £50m-rated star faces 'exile' after being priced out of transfer

Chelsea 's Trevoh Chalobah is deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge after failing to secure a move away.

The defender, who came through the ranks during Thomas Tuchel's time at the club, was looking to move on before the transfer window ended but potential suitors were continually put off by his £50m price tag. Bayern Munich, now coached by Tuchel, were open to a loan, but that never materialised.

Chalobah is currently sidelined through injury but does not expect to feature much when he does return in late September, reports the Evening Standard. The Blues have bought in defensive recruits with the likes of Axel Disasi establishing themselves, leaving the academy graduate to watch on.

Nottingham Forest offered £25m for a permanent deal, but were unable to convince Chalobah to move to the Midlands.. The centre-back will weigh up his next move when the time comes having signed a deal with Chelsea until 2028. He is keen to join a club of Chelsea's standing with Bayern potentially coming back in.

Chalobah only put pen to paper on a new deal last November, less than a year ago, and was optimistic about the future. He said: "As everyone knows I’ve been here from a young age and to continue here is every kid’s dream. Whenever I get the chance, I’ll give my all for the club and look for the future ahead."

Mauricio Pochettino's arrival though has changed the dynamics in west London with his predecessor, Graham Potter, having use for Chalobah. The Argentine's assessment of the player is clearly different and the depth of defenders on the books has also ramped up competition.

Thiago Silva has continued to remain a regular with his experience invaluable. Levi Colwill has returned after several loan spells away and wants to establish himself in the first-team picture whilst Frenchman Disasi has enjoyed a positive start to life in the capital.

Wesley Fofana, an expensive purchase last summer, has been dealing with major injury problems but will want to stake his case when he returns. Benoît Badiashile was signed back in January and has struggled for minutes, but he too is ahead of Chalobah in the pecking order.
