When it comes to wedding guest attire there is one golden rule - you never upstage the bride. But that's exactly what happened to one newlywed on her big day when her husband's friend brought along his plus-one.

The bride explained that her husband had invited an old friend to their wedding ceremony, who in turn asked if he could bring a date. The couple had never met the new girlfriend, and had actually opted not to invite any plus-ones to their small wedding. However, they went ahead and gave their consent for her to come.

Fast-forward to the big day and things quickly took a turn. Since the bride's family are both conservative and religious they opted for a black tie event - although it seems the new girlfriend didn't get the memo. She chose to turn up in a "provocative and revealing club dress", the unimpressed bride revealed on Reddit. "It was entirely inappropriate but we tried to ignore it. Everyone else was in elegant formal attire."

Once the dancing got underway, all eyes were on the new girlfriend - and the bride decided it was time to take action. She asked members of staff to offer her a shawl or something else to cover. Her suggestion did not go down well with the guest, who became angry and refused. Eventually both she and the husband's friend were asked to leave by members of staff.

Having shared her side of the story, the bride asked Reddit users for their thoughts, admitting that her husband thought she was in the wrong. And a huge majority requested the same thing - a picture of the offending frock. "I'm always curious what the dress looks like!" one shared while a second echoed: "Yes, any pics or a video?"

One user suggested that it was an honest mistake. "Are you sure she saw the invitation? Did he specify to her that it was black tie?" But another simply stated: "Your wedding, your rules. She was being disrespectful. "

This bride is by no means the only one who has faced upset over her big day. Just recently, one revealed that her sister was threatening to pull out of the wedding because she was so upset about the bridesmaids' dresses.
