When it comes to weddings, one of the most significant purchases for the bride is her wedding dress. Most will have dreamt about their dream wedding gown - so picking the right one is a big deal. Although it can be a task to try and keep it pristine during the big day, it will inevitably get a few marks.

However, one woman was distraught when she discovered her sister had split red wine on her dress, and hadn't confessed to it. Not letting the grudge go, she refused to help contribute to her sister's wedding dress when it was her turn to get married - causing a sisterly rift.

As she admitted it has been "eating her up" when she refused to contribute towards her dress, she was left divided on whether she was in the wrong to do so. Asking for advice online, she took to Reddit for outside opinions. She wrote: "So, my sister and I have had our ups and downs, as most siblings do. However, we've been really close the past few years, and I was so excited to have her as my maid of honour for my wedding last year.

"Flashback to my wedding day, I had this beautiful dress that I spent a fortune on. After the ceremony and during the reception, I noticed some red wine had been spilt on the bottom of my dress. I was devastated. I later found out from a bridesmaid that my sister had accidentally knocked over her wine glass when she was trying to take a 'funny' photo. She didn't come forward about it and didn't even apologise when I confronted her."

Now it's her sister's turn to get married, she has refused to contribute towards her sister's dress that's over her budget as she is still not over her sister owning up to the red wine spillage. Feeling confused, she claimed some family members have told her to let it go, whereas others have backed her up and said it's justified.

The post further detailed: "Fast forward to now. My sister is getting married and she's fallen in love with a dress that's way out of her budget. She asked if I'd help her pay for half of it as her wedding gift. I flat-out refused. I brought up how she ruined my dress and didn't take responsibility, and I feel like I shouldn't have to contribute towards hers.

"Now my family is divided. Half of them think I'm being petty and that I should let go of past grudges. The other half thinks I'm justified. So, am I the a**hole for refusing to pay for my sister's wedding dress after she ruined mine?"

People were quick to assure the sister she wasn't being unreasonable, and that it was unfair for her sister to assume she would fork out for a contribution towards the dress. One Reddit user wrote: "I don't understand why she'd ask you to pay for a dress even if she didn't ruin your dress," whilst another added: "To the half of the family that thinks that you're being petty, tell them to pay for it if they're so concerned about her dress. Not your problem."
